World Spine Care Canada and the Indigenous leadership of Pimicikamak Okimawin (Cross Lake First Nation) are pleased to announce a research project and health service in Cross Lake, Mani- toba, Canada. Funding is made possible through funding from from Health Canada Substance Use and Addiction Program., the Canadi- an Chiropractic Association, the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation, and the Skoll Foundation.

World Spine Care founder and president Scott Haldeman received the 2023 McAndrews Research Fund Pioneer Award from the NMIC Foundation for his work helping people in underserved regions of the world.
Global Spine Care Initiative Receives Grant Funding
The Global Spine Care Initiative (GSCI) has obtained funds for a project in Pimicikamak (Cross Lake First Nation), Manitoba, Canada. This announcement is made in collaboration with the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), the University of Manitoba, The Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation (CCRF), and the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA).

What is the connection between low back pain and mortality?
Low back pain is one of the most common health problems in the population. About 80% of people will suffer from back pain at some point in their life, usually during adolescence or early adulthood. Low back pain is the leading cause of years lived with disability – a measure of the burden of disease – and has a greater impact than more well-known diseases such as HIV, malaria, diabetes, and breast and lung cancer combined.
Although research has been done to determine whether back pain is associated with an increased death rate, the results have not been consistent.
A new systematic review tried to clarify these results.

A new peer-reviewed article describes World Spine Care & GSCI's guides for managing neck and back pain
A new paper from World Spine Care and the Global Spine Care Initiative was recently published in the journal JMIR Public Health and Surveillance.The article describes the process that the authors underwent to develop the guides for Managing Neck and Back Pain in the Time of COVID-19 released last year. The guides help empower patients to self-manage spine pain when appropriate.

A newly published article in the journal World Neurosurgery revealed the most cited articles in global neurosurgery. Included in the top 17 list is a paper that was led by Drs. Bart Green, Claire Johnson, and Scott Haldeman for the Global Spine Care Initiative.
